Drug Trafficking Arrest in Jackson County, AL

A drug trafficking investigation that began a year ago resulted in one man’s arrest and more than 300 grams of methamphetamine and other drugs being seized on Wednesday in Scottsboro.

On Wednesday, January 12, 2022, the Jackson County Sherriff's Office issued the following press release:

A one-year drug trafficking investigation conducted by members of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) Region F Drug Task Force, Jackson County Sheriff's Office, DeKalb County Sheriff's Office, Scottsboro Police Department, and other Task Force member agencies culminated in the arrest of a Scottsboro man on outstanding arrest warrants stemming from this investigation.

John Allen LEIGHTNER, age 31 of Scottsboro, AL., was arrested at his residence on Lemon Street in Scottsboro and charged with outstanding arrest warrants for:

  • Trafficking in Morphine

  • Trafficking in Synthetic Cannabinoid

  • Trafficking in Marijuana

  • Trafficking in Methamphetamine

  • Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substances X 6

  • Certain Persons Forbidden from Possessing a Firearm

  • Possession of a Sawed-off Shotgun

  • Possession of a Firearm with an Altered Serial Number

  • Chemical Endangerment of a Child

  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

During LIEGHTNER's arrest, drug agents located and seized:

  • 361 grams of Methamphetamine

  • 326 ounces of Marijuana

  • 168 grams of Crack Cocaine

  • 51 grams of Cocaine HCL (Powder)

  • 86 grams of Fentanyl

  • 420 grams of Spice (Synthetic Cannabinoid)

  • 31 grams of Psilocybin Mushrooms

  • 4 handguns

  • 7 rifles.

This seizure will result in additional charges being pursued against LEIGHTNER and others. LIEGHTNER remains in the Jackson County Jail on a $130,500 Bond.
