Both the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, along with other countries, have issued this Food Recall Warning involving Elite products due to Salmonella. The company Strauss Israel Elite announced the recall last week including over 100 different products. Recall Notices Posted on the FDA RECALL SITE: Strauss is voluntarily recalling the following Elite branded products: Elite Chocolate, Cakes, Wafers, Energy Grain Snacks, Energy Chocolate Rice Cakes, Chewing Gum and Toffee Candies, including all product codes currently on the US market. The products have been sold directly to customers via, Fresh Direct,, and all Retailer Online Sites. The Elite products have been distributed in the kosher market nationally, primarily in the Tri-State area of New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, California, and Florida. Posted on the Canadian Food Inspection Agency RECALL SITE: Foodfest International 2000 Inc. is recalling various Elite brand products from the marketplace due to possible Salmonella contamination. Label information may appear in English or Hebrew. The recalled products have been sold nationally in Canada. What products are recalled? Among items recalled are Elite Chocolate, Cakes, Wafers, Energy Grain Snacks, Energy Chocolate Rice Cakes, Chewing Gum, and Toffee Candies. The products are being recalled as they were manufactured in a facility in which Salmonella was detected in the production line and in the liquid chocolate that is used for the production of the finished products. The recalled products may potentially be contaminated with Salmonella, an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections, endocarditis, and arthritis.
